The McCandless Project

My experiment was to wear makeup for a day.  I almost never wear makeup and can’t even put some of it on right.  It was interesting to wear it for a day though.  At first the makeup felt weird and bothered me.  As the day went on I stopped noticing it and didn’t even notice I had it on towards the end of the day.  I got mixed reactions throughout the day.  Some of my closer friends noticed it right away and just said something like, “I see you have makeup on today.” This made me feel self conscious because I didn’t know if they thought the change was good or bad. Other people that weren’t as close to me didn’t say anything until I brought it up but then they said something like, “Ya, I noticed you were wearing makeup today.”  I expected these reactions though because people that know you better will speak right up and talk to you about something that is different about you. Others will notice it but not bring it up and talk about it unless you start the conversation.  In some ways that’s a good thing that peers your not as close to won’t bring up something that’s obviously different about you that you don’t quite feel comfortably with.  Overall I don’t think that we are able to break away from the norm but not able to do so freely with no judgement.  Even though your peers may not say anything, they notice the difference and are probably making their own opinions in their head about it.  Your closer friends are just more open and comfortable talking about it.  Overall I really injoyed doing this experiment and were happy with the results.
