Metacognitive Blog

1.) There are several things that I changed from my first draft to my last to improve it and make it better.  The first thing that I changed was that I added several things that I forgot like the title and how the student felt when they were taking the test.  I also fixed some punctuation errors and edited the wording to make some of my sentences sound better.  The last thing that I did was rewrite my quotes to fit MLA format.  These are all the things that I changed form my first draft to improve my final copy.
2.) The form of support that helped me the most out of the three that I did was the peer review checklist because it was nice to get fresh eyes and someone’s opinion that was my age.  Sharing with an adult helped a lot but not as much as the peer review because my mom had already read my essay several times so it was nice to get someone else’s opinion who had never read it before.  Although all the options helped improve my essay the most helpful was the peer editing.
3.) There are several things that I can do to improve my writing skills.  One way I can do this is by continuing to write a lot more.  Another way is by getting helpful feedback on my writing like we got on the essay and the choice book timed writing.  The last way I can improve my writing skill is by widening my vocabulary to make my stories more interesting and overall make me a better writer.  These are only three of the many things that I can do this year to improve my writing skills and make myself a better writer.
4.) There are several areas I have room to grow in my writing but I would have to say that the biggest areas I have to improve in are spelling and shortening my sentences.  One way I can shorten my sentences is by cutting to the chase instead of going into too much detail.  One way I can improve my spelling skills is by widening my vocabulary by reading and writing more often.  Overall I have several areas to grow in my writing but the biggest goal that I would like to achieve this year in my writing is improving my spelling and expanding my vocabulary by continuing to read and write more often.

  1. It is a sign of a mature learner to know that increased reading and writing will help you to improve your writing! I am thoroughly impressed. I am also happy to know that the peer review was so helpful. We will work on both diction and sentence fluency this year, so you're in luck. :)
